LAURENS CO, SC (WSPA) – Families speak out after saying nothing has been done to repair the mausoleum at Forest Lawn Cemetery, where their loved ones are buried.

We first reported in October 2020 that families desperately wanted something done about the deterioration.

What was once a quiet and peaceful place for families to rest their loved ones is now surrounded by a fence and a warning tape after the condemnation of the mausoleum.

You may see mold on the outside from the noticeable water damage.

One section is barricaded with wood.

A warning tape is attached to some columns.

The fence that surrounds it prohibits anyone from entering to pay homage to it.

“My mom is upstairs with the red flowers and my step dad,” said Toni Garrett. “It’s Christmas, we can’t even put flowers on the graves of our loved ones.”

Garrett buried two members of his family there.

“It has been going on for 5 years and there has been a lot of damage,” said Garrett. “We called home offices, we called the office here, we spoke to several different people. We always have a different story.

However, nothing has been done to remedy it.

“It’s a mess. No one should have to go through this, no one in the family. No one is taking care of us. No one is behind us. We’re at the end of our tether and we don’t know what to do with it. other, ”Garrett said.

David Owens says the neglect is disappointing.

“My wife and I have two places down there, we have friends buried in there,” Owens said.

Garrett and Owens both lose hope that he is good looking again.

“We owe a lot more to our loved ones than that,” Garrett said.

7 News has learned that the mausoleum is not the only problem here, parts of the cemetery have also been damaged and nothing has been done about it yet.

7 News has contacted the cemetery to find out when this damage can be repaired. We have not had an answer.
