You know, there are a few places that seem to come back time and time again if you search the internet for “haunted places in Indiana”. Some of the most famous (or should we say infamous?) cases in the Hoosier State include the Whispers Estate, the Hannah House, the Central State Mansion, and the former Slippery Noodle Inn. Another commonly mentioned and legendary Hoosier lair is Stepp’s Graveyard, and guess what? It just so happens that there is a scary hike to get to this place that is both beautiful and weird. Nestled in the notoriously spooky Morgan-Monroe State Forest is the Three Lakes Hike, which takes hikers past two photogenic, crystal clear lakes (yes, just two – there were three), but also takes them to the one of the most haunted places in the state. Take this haunted hike in Indiana if you’re hoping to get out and enjoy the outdoors with a spooky side.
In these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list at a later date.
It’s long – just over ten miles long – but it East it’s worth it. The scenery encountered while hiking this trail is worth it, but there is so much more to this hike than just scenic views.

This is a great place to come and hike if you are looking for peace and quiet. Well… peace and quiet, and sometimes “what was that?” when you hear a strange noise along the way.

There are several reasons for this; local legend has it that the whole forest is haunted. Others say it’s only certain places. We don’t know who is right, but we prefer that neither of them is right.

This is the infamous Old Stepp Cemetery, established two centuries ago and said to be teeming with paranormal activity. The stories that come out of this place are truly chilling.

Take, for example, the tragic (and chilling) story of the Lady in Black. The legend changes a bit depending on the source, but the consistency between them is as follows: a local woman lost her husband, then a child, and both were buried in Stepp Cemetery. Until her own death, the grieving woman would come here and cry, using a stump beside the graves to sit on. These days you might want to avoid a specific strain – it’s said to be the one – as the female disgruntled spirit is sure to kill anyone who does within a year. People have reported the incessant feeling of being watched, and strange noises, orbs, and electronic malfunctions have also been mentioned.

Some people claim to have seen dark figures walking among the trees, feeling watched, hearing weird screams and strange sounds, and more.

Either way, this hike is beautiful…if you can brave it all.
