SUNDAY JULY 17, 2022 – 10:30 AM

Members of the Old Saltillo Cemetery Association Board of Directors developed plans for the 2022 Memorial Day Program/Annual Business Meeting. As is tradition, the program will take place on the third Sunday, July 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the beautifully renovated, air-conditioned Former Saltillo United Methodist Church, located at 664 CR 3357, directly across from the cemetery. The program will begin with congregational songs left by Steve Conley and accompanied by pianists, Lisa Lowry. Rev. Cassie Wade will give the summon. A Patriotic Recognition of Veterans will be led by Lucas Dennis with the help of all the youth in attendance.

Afterwards, greetings will be made by Lou Briley Daniel. After that, the annual business meeting will take place and consists of a report on the activities undertaken and work done for the upkeep of the cemetery during the past year, a financial report and the election of three members for one three-year term on the Board of Directors.

Each year, a special memorial tribute to those interred in the old cemetery of Saltillo during the previous twelve months is held. Special music will be presented by Steve Conley. This year, Kelli McAfee Tarver, assisted by Ginny Agee Doyle, will present to honor loved ones who were laid to rest at Old Saltillo Cemetery last year. Family members of each person interred at the cemetery in the past year are encouraged to attend and participate in the tribute of their loved ones.

An exceptional program has been planned. The theme of the program this year is “Preserving History“. BF Hicks, attorney and Franklin County Representative for Texas State Historic Markers; and John Sellers, the Hopkins County Representative for State Historic Markers, will be the program speakers. Both are outstanding presenters and will provide very important information regarding document preservation.

After the benediction given by Mrs. Constance McGill, lunch will be served in the air-conditioned Kirby Memorial Center. Everyone is asked to bring the usual full meal with sufficient portions to share with others. Food will be laid out buffet style with cups, plates, napkins, cooking utensils, water and iced tea provided. We have plenty of seating at the Memorial Center, but for those who still prefer the Memorial Day lunch outdoors, space is available under the shade of the church’s tall oak trees. Please bring lawn chairs and card tables so you can enjoy lunch and socializing after service.
Time will be provided for lunch and later in the afternoon for sightseeing – reconnecting with old acquaintances and making new friends. Please plan to attend the service which will be held on the third Sunday of July.
The Old Saltillo Cemetery Association board members are Randy Agee, Ryan Agee, Lou Briley Daniel, Vivian Dennis-Monzingo, Sara Wardrup, Kathy Whitten Patterson, Johnny McAfee, Kennith Patrick, and Lucas Dennis.
