Lee University will present the 15th Annual Walking Tour of Historic Fort Hill Cemetery on Sunday, October 24. Dr Randy Wood, chairman of Lee’s Department of History, Political Science and Humanities, hosts this event every year.

Tours will be led by Lee University history scholars and volunteers who will introduce the community to several fascinating 19th and early 20th century Earls of Clevelander and Bradley buried at Fort Hill. Local students and artists dressed in period costumes will bring these early residents to life.

This year the tour will feature the following historical figures: Julius and Matilda Raht, Edwin and Anna Plummer Delany, Pleasant and Caroline Vance Craigmiles, Nathaniel Grant, Dr. William and Annie Taylor Schultz, James Anderson Hoxworth, Rev. James and Katie May Knapp Pogue, Abraham and Charlotte Lee Wolbach, Herman J. and Henrietta Kuhlmann Schrader, Edward Christian and Augusta Ruth Wagner.

“Having the opportunity to participate in Lee’s Cemetery Tour has been one of my favorite extracurricular activities during my undergraduate career,” said Audrey Haley, a Lee 2019 political science alumnus. a pleasure to discover the community that lived in Cleveland and to share its stories with our current community. I have had great fun meeting students from other disciplines on campus and will always cherish my experience.

Tours start at 4 p.m. and will start every 15 minutes until dusk, lasting approximately 75 minutes each. The last tour will start shortly after 6 p.m.

Tickets cost $ 5 per person or $ 2 for students and are purchased on site. Information brochures will also be available there.

Guests should park at Cleveland Christian Fellowship on 695 S. Ocoee St. and take the van that will transport guests to and from the tour site.
